Dr. Bhakti (bhak·ti) Gala is an Assistant Professor at the School of Library and Information Science, Central University of Gujarat, India. Bhakti received her doctorate degree from the Department of Library and Information Science at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India. Her research work is at the intersection of cultural heritage resource discovery, metadata, information literacy, public libraries, digital libraries, and open and equitable access to information. She has published her research in journals like Journal of Librarianship and Information Science, Information Processing and Management, Library and Information Science Research, Library Quarterly, First Monday, Desidoc Journal of Library and Information Technology, and conference proceedings published by Wiley, ACM and Springer Nature among others. Dr. Gala has worked on research projects in collaboration with and funded by OCLC/ALISE, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, ASIS&T, and the University of Hong Kong. Bhakti also volunteers as a Director-at-Large with ASIS&T (Association for Information Science and Technology, USA) since 2023. Bhakti is the recipient of the 2022 Cretsos Leadership Award from ASIS&T, USA and the 2014 Best Research Paper award from a Developing Country awarded by the Special Interest Group on International Information Issues (SIG-III, ASIS&T). She is also a 2014 Mortenson Associate from University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign.
